How to Remove Stuttering

You may or may not know someone that stutters. No matter what you may believe, it might surprise you to know that only approximately one percent of the world’s population stutters. There are various methods that can be learnt, that will help you get rid of it and allow you to speak fluently.

The condition normally starts from childhood and as one progresses into adolescence, it disappears. However, not everyone will outgrow this as they get older and they may need help.

Let us look at some simple and interesting tips on how to stop stuttering:

Some people have found that singing the words that they want to say can make them stop stuttering. This sounds funny but it really does work for many people that have tried it.

Read to people that you feel a little bit comfortable with. This will also help you get use to speaking in front of people, calming your nerves.

Try to see your words in your head before you actually start talking.

Talk slower that what you are use to. Do not rush into the exercise, which will only add to the pressure.

Breathe deep before you say a word that is really large and long. If possible try breaking the word into smaller pieces, so that you do not get struck with one word.

Try chewing on something while you are speaking as this might help.

Try speaking either very loudly or in whispers. You might get on someone’s nerves when you do this so consider where you are at before you actually begin speaking.

Do not hold your breath while you are speaking because it makes things worse. You want to be able to speak when you exhale.

Stuttering gets worse when you are tense. You will stutter more if you are nervous. Find a way to calm down.

Pause and collect your thoughts before you speak. This will help you speak in a relaxed manner.

Do not try to get everything out at one time. Speak one word at a time and slowly complete the sentence.

You will want to try all of these tips in order to improve your speech but you might need to practice in order to see results and this may take time. It will be difficult practicing these tips initially but over a period of time, you will be able to overcome your fear and will be able to speak fluently.
